Polio eradication action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Fool House Rock: How Measles Is Making a Comeback

"People love stories that confirm their suspicions..."

From The New York Times Opinion, this animated video features a conversation between the characters "Measles", who is trapped inside a test tube at the United States (US) Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and her wise buddy "Polio". Measles sets out on an adventure to "go viral" and infect Americans. Her quest is eased by the fact that there are many parents who subscribe to logical fallacies that deny science and the success of vaccinations (including "confirmation bias", the "perfectionist fallacy", "confusing correlation with causation", and a "slippery slope argument"). Will Measles be victorious?

Editor's note: The video's title brings to mind Schoolhouse Rock!, an American interstitial programming series of animated musical educational short films (and later, videos) that originally aired during the Saturday morning children's programming block on the US television network ABC from 1973 to 1985.
