Polio eradication action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Pakistan: Assessment and Monitoring of Training Cycle of Polio Eradication Campaign 2008

From the Exec Summary: "The assignment evinced that there are some inherent flaws in training material. This included the format as well as language of the manual and booklet which does not facilitate an easy learning specifically in far flung less exposed areas. It fails to cover some essential aspects, including social mobilization processes, communication skills etc. Vaccinators’ training booklet has not been revised for a long time and contains few graphics or another pictorial learning exercises. This makes it uninteresting either as a training guide or field resource. Many booklets are hence discarded after the training and were not observed to be used by vaccinators. The Training manual for CSPs and Supervisors is a collection of information, but not written as a manual with instructions for the trainer. , The manual has a confusing structure and this also lack graphics. The methodology is not interactive or engaging hence the trainings are boring for the participants.. However the most important gaps lies at the field level which includes gaps in capacities of the trainers as well as the training process. This includes the gaps in capacities of trainers, the methodology they adopted, the exposure of trainers, communication skills and learning tools and exercises that the trainers used to facilitate a learning environment. Training at all levels: starts late starts leading to time wastage for large groups of participants and promotes rushed training session that fails to cover all topics. The CSP training as observed in all the CSP trainings attended revealed it to be an update meeting rather than a training. Besides, it is not interactive (no exercises or group works to retain the creativity and concentration of the officers attending the training.)"....
