Polio eradication action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Editorials and Reflection

Early in spring 2017, The CI approached a number of people to write brief editorials on their greatest hopes and fears for the polio eradication initiative at this point in time. Coming from different backgrounds and bringing different perspectives, some of them are from within the programme, and some are from outside; each has spent time reflecting on the programme and the challenges it faces as it moves closer to its ultimate goal. Below you will find contributions from the eight people who agreed to write for our 2017 editorial series. Their pieces reflect both the optimism that drives the programme and the hard-headed realism that has come to guide it.

In India polio program (CORE Group Polio Project) Children's calling group (Bulawa Tolly) was one of the successful innovations. A group of children between 8-12 years age are trained by the community mobilizers prior to the each polio campaign through polio classes organized at the school. On the polio booth day they are assigned a particular area in their locality/village to bring the targeted children to the polio booth.
