Polio eradication action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Adolescents need to be responsible and engaged in their health issues

Adolescents have in recent years been seen as the most neglected demograpy when it comes to health. This has hindered very much in behavioral change.  This has in way worked for them as it has meant not taking responsibility for their health issues. This however, needs to change. Times don't allow for such. Especially in this era of HIV/AIDS. Lesotho has one of the highest prevalance of HIV/AIDS at 25.6%. Data shows that most of the new infections happen in adolescents, specifically adolescent girls. This means we can n o longer afford to be negligent about adolescents.  But the world is changing.  We need to engage them in order to truly learn of the gaps that are there in the health system as far as addressing their concerns.  This will also mean we work with them towards changing behavior. Communication has to be at the level they are at. Communication now among adolescents has changed so much in this age of technology and social media.  This avenues are where they can be found and these avenues are what we should use. Technology has a huge steak in behavioral change and communication in health and it needs to be used.
