Polio eradication action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

To: All participants in the organisation of the SBCC Summit - 2018

Hi folks - the Communications sub-committee met this morning. Three quick outcomes of relevance to your work follow. We would very much welcome you harnessing the communication capacities of your organisation in relation to the items below.

1. Could we please encourage you to highlight the Summit in the communications from your organisation to your networks and partners. There is a communications resource package that can includes logo, images, draft text, etc. If you wish to have access to this dropbox please let us know and we can provide.

2. For your social media communications can we please encourage and support you to use this hashtag #sbccsummit2018 - many thanks - most happy to help if you need any further guidance.

3. The focus of the communications sub-committee at present is on abstracts and registrations - can we please encourage you to highlight those links in your social and online media communications at this time. The abstracts deadline is November 27, 2017.

Thank you. Most happy to answer any questions.

Just one further note. The Communications sub-committee has 3 major roles: Ensure both the SBC & Development communities are fully aware of the Summit; Create and facilitate the pre-, during- and post knowledge sharing and virtual engagement with the conference (based on abstract selection and program); and, Support communications activities with the press and relevant external groups before and after the Summit. For obvious reasons our focus is on the first of these at present - people attending and content to share. We are aware that there are questions from other groups concerning, for example, creating and facilitating the pre-, during- and post knowledge sharing and virtual engagement with the conference. We will update and engage on this soon.
